ghostbox

Installation presented at NIME 2017.

ghostbox is a tangible, physical manifestation of virtually perceived movement. Phantom motion capture data – that is, movement that was detected by a motion capture system even though no performer was present – is expressed through a force feedback haptic interface. Four motors move autonomously in response to the pre-recorded data. Users can interact with these motors through the attached knobs. The enclosure (inspired by vintage radios) and sound design were fashioned to evoke the ethereality of the data source.
